This garnet gold cross be belonged to my grandmother, a gifted pianist whose soul was forever entwined with the streets & cafés of Prague. She was intense in the way artists often are, focused, passionate, magnetic, & not always easy to get along with, for she knew her own mind with remarkable clarity. Her playing was expressive & precise, her presence unforgettable. People were drawn to her without quite knowing why, though she cherished solitude above admiration. Some loved her talent, others her beauty, but very few ever forgot her. The things she loved most in life were her music, her religion, & my grandfather . He always joked, that he had to compete for her affection with both Bach & Jesus, wich is quite a tall order. I was looking for beautiful treasures on a summer evening in Montmartre, the kind where the light turns everything amber & time slows down, just slightly, as if the city itself doesn't want the day to end. It was near closing time when it caught my eye in a tiny shop, laying next to other treasures, an old jump hour pocket watch I could not afford & a tiny porcelain horse on a string. A bracelet. I had never seen metal links braided quite like that, each one winding into the next so completely that it was impossible to say where one ended & another began. I picked it up. I bought it without thinking twice. It came home with me across the rooftops of Paris, over the Seine, through two airports & a customs queue, before it arrived in my shop of wonders. It has rested now. It is ready for new adventures. Details: Gold-filled , not gold-plated, meaning the sheen won't wear off easily with time & wear. She liked to say that her garnet pieces were gifts from a Hungarian prince. Though she eventually left him for my uncle, a Polish ship's doctor & heir to a porcelain-factory. in old photographs she is undeniably striking & intriguing, & this necklace carries the same sparkling magic. An exquisite early-1920s Art Deco necklace crafted in warm tombak, featuring its original tongue-and-box clasp , a hallmark of quality workmanship from the period. Looking at old photographs, it's clear she was a captivating woman, & this piece carries the same air of mystery & elegance. This necklace is 38 cm long, matching the shorter collier style so beloved in early-1900s Vienna & Prague. Always at the height of fashion, my great-aunt cherished this close-sitting collier. It rested higher on the neck because these refined evening pieces were designed to sit above the tall collars & structured bodices of the time, allowing the garnets to easily catch the light. Looking at old photographs, it's clear she was a strikingly enchanting woman, & this necklace carries the same charm & air of mystery. The setting is 900 silver, gold-plated, a classic & historically authentic combination widely used in garnet jewelry between 1800 & 1930. Known as gilt silver, this technique was prized for the slightly greater firmness of silver, which securely holds the many small garnets used in floral clusters, while the gold finish adds a rich, warm glow that enhances the deep red color of the pyrope garnets. It is an authentic piece of late 19th-century Bohemian garnet jewellery. The necklace features deep red natural pyrope garnets, meticulously cut & arranged in floral cluster motifs .The stones sparkle with rich crimson fire, set in tombac with gold plating, a traditional Bohemian technique that gives the piece both a warm gold tone & durability. Its delicate arrangement makes it sit beautifully at the collarbone. We are keeping her most treasured pieces, which were gifts from my uncle, & letting this one go. I am letting go of a few family heirlooms, but never without their stories. This brooch belonged to my mother, Arielle, who worked in a French travel agency in the 1960s, arranging tickets for the legendary Simplon-Orient-Express. As family lore goes, she boarded that very train in Paris, bound for Venice. Somewhere between Paris & the Alps she quarreled with a stranger in an elegant three-piece suit who reminded her of Marcello Mastroianni. They argued over the draft from the window, but by the time the train rolled into Venezia Santa Lucia station, their bickering had softened into laughter, carried by a shared love of books & old films. That night they walked the canals of Venice until dawn, talking as though time itself had slowed to listen. They met only once more, at the station when she had to return to Paris. Just before she boarded, he pressed this mosaic heart into her hand. "Flowers that last forever, so you remember me," he said. & then he was gone. She said she never saw him again, but she kept the heart all her life, & whenever she looked at it, a mischievous smile always returned to her face & she looked like a young girl again. A whispered secret from another century. Size :EU 56.5, US 7.75, UK P, France 56.5, Italy 16.5-17, Japan 16-17, Diameter 18 mm, Circumference 56.5 mm This ring belonged to my great-aunt, a radiant socialite in Prague whose life was a swirl of velvet gowns, candlelit salons, & moonlit carriage rides. Family legend says a Hungarian prince slipped it onto her finger one night in a Carriage, as they rode through the cobbled streets of the Old Town. He was enchanted, but she left him for a polish ships doctor & heir to a porcelain factory, my great uncle. She carried a striking presence well into old age. I remember how, whenever she stepped into a room, it was as if the air shifted, suddenly, that room belonged to her & everyone in it knew it. She wore this ring to poetry readings, masked balls, & diplomatic dinners, always with a knowing smile & a touch of mystery. The garnets are breathtaking, sparkling. The band is crafted from 900 silver & plated in gold, as was customary in fine Bohemian jewels to combine the strength & flexibility of silver with the warmth & richness of gold. Overall the gold plating is intact & the condition is rather marvellous for its age. I would even say, that it is the most well kept piece, that we have. We're keeping her most intimate treasures: the ones gifted by my great uncle. This ring? It's ready for a new chapter.
