This delicate necklace belonged to my great-aunt, who was a bit of a socialite in early 20th-century Prague. She wore it to theatre premieres, literary salons, & candlelit dinners in the city's elegant cafés. She claimed it had been a gift from a Hungarian prince, one of many tales she liked to tell, though she later left him for my uncle, a Polish ship's doctor & heir to a porcelain factory. Looking at the old photographs, I cannot deny that she was a strikingly enchanting woman in her day, & this necklace carries with it the same sense of charm & mystery. It is an authentic piece of late 19th-century Bohemian garnet jewelry, likely made between 1880 & 1900. The necklace features deep red natural pyrope garnets, meticulously cut & arranged in floral cluster motifs along the front. The stones sparkle with rich crimson fire, set in 900 silver. We are keeping her most treasured pieces, which were gifts from my uncle, & letting this one go. I hope it finds a new life with someone who will take it to parties & nightlife adventures, & above all, treasure it as she once did. Details: Genuine Bohemian pyrope garnets Period: approx. 1880-1900 Origin: Prague / Bohemia Setting: 900 silver Length: approx. 45 cm Condition: Antique condition consistent with age; all stones intact. This necklace was not my great aunt's, the glittering socialite of Prague, but my grandmother's, a darker, more gothic beauty. While my aunt floated through balls & salons, my grandmother lingered in candlelit libraries, reading Poe, Tolstoy, & Hesse. She wore her garnets not as decoration but as companions to smoky literary dinners & long nights of conversation. It was given to her as she said, by Zdeněk, a man who once dreamed of poetry before duty called him back his father's family business of crystal, glassware, & woodcarving to take over. Though he traded verses for ledgers, he never lost his longing for beauty. To my grandmother, he gave this necklace, not as a love token, but as a recognition between two souls devoted to art & words. She wore it often. We are grateful for the treasures left to us by our grandmother & great aunt. Some pieces we will keep close to our hearts, while others we pass on to those who will cherish their beauty & history. Details: Antique Bohemian garnet necklace (late 19th century) Tombak setting (traditional gilt copper alloy) Restored back chain, patina matched Cluster front with rose-cut garnets Size: 46 cm long Antique Bohemian Garnet Necklace, Precious Heirloom

In a time when East Germany was sealed off from the West, everyday luxuries like this perfume atomizer were the stuff of legends. My uncle, who had fallen in love with Biggy from East Berlin, not only slipped across the border to marry he, he actually carried this rare little treasure out of the DDR as a gift for his mother. Because he had gone voluntarily, where everyone else longed to leave, his request for birthday visits to the West where usually granted. My grandmother kept it in its box, proud & amused, because luxury items usually flowed the other way. Produced by VEB GPG, with its silhouettes of dancers & musicians circling the porcelain like shadows caught mid-song, it was more than just an atomizer. You might find one if you search, but almost never still cradled in its original box, a small, mischievous fragment of a divided world. The box is 17 x 17 cm the Atomizer 10 x 7 cm & the vase about 14 x6 cm Rare Ddr Perfume Atomizer & Vase - Veb Gpg Porcelain With Original Box

I am letting go of a few family heirlooms, but never without their stories. This brooch belonged to my mother, Arielle, who worked in a French travel agency in the 1960s, arranging tickets for the legendary Simplon-Orient-Express. As family lore goes, she boarded that very train in Paris, bound for Venice. Somewhere between Paris & the Alps she quarreled with a stranger in an elegant three-piece suit who reminded her of Marcello Mastroianni. They argued over the draft from the window, but by the time the train rolled into Venezia Santa Lucia station, their bickering had softened into laughter, carried by a shared love of books & old films. That night they walked the canals of Venice until dawn, talking as though time itself had slowed to listen. They met only once more, at the station when she had to return to Paris. Just before she boarded, he pressed this mosaic heart into her hand. "Flowers that last forever, so you remember me," he said. & then he was gone. She said she never saw him again, but she kept the heart all her life, & whenever she looked at it, a mischievous smile always returned to her face & she looked like a young girl again. Someone once loved them. That much is clear. A man, a woman, & their daughter , caught in the stillness of a portrait, touched by a careful hand with pale color. This locket, may have been carried through war. It may have sat in a pocket while cities fell, or been held tightly in hands that trembled at the sound of telegrams. It may have been all someone had left or the one reason to come home. We bought in an old enchanted store in Paris but the clothing of the inhabitants of this pendant suggest Germany or Austrian 1930-1940. Details: Original 1930s-1940s photo locket Hand-colored family portrait Gold plated Art Deco frame with red coral accents Visible patina, light wear consistent with age Size: 5.2 cm One of a kind 1930S Antique Locket Hand-Colored Portrait Art Deco Doublet Pendant
