This delicate necklace belonged to my great-aunt, a bit of a socialite in early 20th-century Prague. She wore it to theatre premieres, literary salons, & candlelit dinners in the city's elegant cafés. She told that her garnet pieces were a gift from a Hungarian prince, one of many stories she loved to share, before later leaving him for my uncle, a Polish ship's doctor & heir to a porcelain factory. Looking at old photographs, it's clear she was a strikingly enchanting woman, & this necklace carries the same charm & air of mystery. An authentic piece of late 19th-century Bohemian garnet jewelry. It features deep red natural pyrope garnets meticulously cut & arranged in floral cluster motifs along the front. The stones shimmer against their Tombak setting, a gold-toned alloy commonly used in turn-of-the-century jewelry, which adds warmth & period authenticity to the piece. While we are keeping her most treasured pieces, gifted by my uncle, we are letting this one go. I hope it finds a new life with someone who will take it to soirées & nightlife adventures and, above all, treasure it as she once did. This delicate necklace belonged to my great-aunt, a very lively socialite in early 20th-century Prague. She called it her Maličká Hvězdičkaher "little star." She wore it to theatre premieres, literary salons, candlelit dinners, & often at Christmas. She liked to say that her garnet pieces were gifts from a Hungarian prince, & she owned many. Family lore claims she eventually left him for my uncle, a Polish ship's doctor & porcelain-factory heir. in old photographs she is undeniably striking & intriguing, & this necklace carries the same sparkling magic. The piece is an authentic late-19th- to early-20th-century Bohemian garnet necklace, made around 1900-1910. It features deep red natural pyrope garnets arranged in smal clusters leading to a central star, set in 800 silver with a faint gold shimmer. The gold shimmer shows up more in the photos, I notice now that I am holding it, but I made them outside, so it probably depends on how the light hits the metal casing. We are keeping her most treasured pieces, & letting this one find a new life with someone who will wear & enjoy it as she once did. Because he had gone voluntarily, where everyone else longed to leave, his request for birthday visits to the West where usually granted. My grandmother kept it in its box, proud & amused, because luxury items usually flowed the other way.
