A fabulous Victorian antique crinoline walking dress dating to the 1860s - some issues with the condition , but still a brilliant quirky design ( i think the brief was ' add scallops !! ' ) very much of it's era, the additional apron & peplum bodice foreshadowing the bustle era to come.. Quite petite, possibly for a teenager, three pieces, bodice, skirt & apron overskirt, in a warm sandy beige fabric, possibly a wool silk blend, structured & textured. The bodice is fitted & boned, fastening with concealed hooks then buttons ( the buttons look like wood ) Lovely cinched hourglass silhouette, with a rounded peplum edged all around with scallops. Each scallop made individually, with a pleat in the centre & self binding around the edge. Crochet lace collar, curved sleeves - wide crescents swelling at the elbow, the cuffs finished with more scallops & crochet. The over skirt is divided in to four rounded segments, a shorter flat apron at the front, longer , narrower tails at the sides & back, all edged with larger scallops that run up the back, with four small bows where the segments meet. The skirt forms a dome, flat fronted with gathered fullness in the back ( shown over a hoop, not included ) with yet more scallops around the hem, smaller pointing upwards, large pointing down. CONDITION Numerous small holes, mostly on the skirt & mostly hidden by the apron when displayed.Small repairs to the front of the apron, back of the apron & back of the skirt. A large repair & crusty mark on the back of the skirt, hidden by the overskirt. Some small marks. Inside the bodice the flap the holds the eyes for the hooks is missing. Some small splits at the left under arm. Approx measurements - bodice shoulder 14 bust 32 waist 21.5 skirt waist 22 front length 35 IMPORTANT INFORMATION - The pieces i sell are often over 100 years old & rarely in perfect condition, i make every effort to describe & show any faults, so PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION, READ THE CONDITION REPORT, STUDY THE IMAGES & ASK ANY QUESTIONS before buying. A fabulous, museum quality Victorian antique walking dress suit dating to the 1890s. Two pieces, bodice & skirt, in heavy striped wool - one stripe with a mohair like texture, brown with flecks of red & gold, the other a plain flat navy. A wonderfully graphic use of the fabric, with the stripes meeting in dramatic chevrons in places. The bodice is fitted & boned, fastening with hooks at centre front, the fabric crossing over to one side a fastening with small snaps ( possibly later ) The hem forms points at front & back, the collar stands tall, edged with pleated net on the inner edge. Extra wide lapels, cut to two points help with the exaggerated silhouette, sitting over fantastic huge balloon sleeves, the leg o' mutton shape tapering to narrow cuffs ( i've stuffed the sleeves to show the shape ) The skirt is flat fronted & fitted over the hips, with pleated fullness & extra length in the back. CONDITION Externally near pristine - there is a tuck near the neck which is coming partially open, & there is slight wear to the skirt hem in places. As mentioned the snaps are possibly replacements. The net at the neck is partially loose. Inside the bodice there are some small holes in the cotton lining, at least six bones are missing & one is partially loose. The inner belt is snapped. Approx measurements - bodice shoulder 9 bust 35 waist 25 skirt front length 36 waist 25 IMPORTANT INFORMATION - The pieces i sell are often over 100 years old & rarely in perfect condition, i make every effort to describe & show any faults, so PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION, READ THE CONDITION REPORT, STUDY THE IMAGES & ASK ANY QUESTIONS before buying. An exquisite antique peignoir / dressing gown / morning robe , 19th / early 20th century - bit of a tricky one to date , completely hand worked down to the button loops ( not sure on the lace ), the fabric has Regency look, the big round collar feels 1830s, the loose fitting bodice with grown on sleeves & fancy waistband more 1910s - i'll err on the side of caution & guess at late Edwardian, circa 1910, possibly re modelled from earlier, but i could be wrong ! ( any ideas on the date i'd love to hear from you ) Either way, very beautiful, & mostly in excellent condition. One piece, in a lightweight semi sheer cotton / muslin, woven all over with tiny raised dots. High waisted, the bodice loose fitting, the fabric gathered in to the waist, with grown on 3/4 sleeves. The skirt forms a narrow dome, gathered in to the waist all around. One hook at the neck, hand worked loops with buttons from the waist to above the knee. The fancy waistband is made with a band of hand worked open work in a repeating circular design, originally a ribbon would have fed through serving as a tie ( i've shown a substitute, not included ) The large rounded collar is hand embroidered with a delicate swirling foliate design, with flowers made from open eyelets, edged with Irish ? lace. The same lace trims the slightly flared cuffs. CONDITION Mostly excellent - there are some holes in one area near the front neck, hidden by the collar. Slight discolouration, a couple of very tiny marks. The hook at the neck is broken, & possibly some hooks are missing from the front of the bodice. Approx measurements - bust 32 waist 29 length 52.5 IMPORTANT INFORMATION - The pieces i sell are often over 100 years old & rarely in perfect condition, i make every effort to describe & show any faults, so PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION, READ THE CONDITION REPORT, STUDY THE IMAGES & ASK ANY QUESTIONS before buying. A beautiful Victorian antique dress bodice dating to the late 1830s / 1840s. Gorgeous glossy silk, woven with narrow stripes in pink & pale silvery gold. Fitted & boned , with a low v neck, originally fastening with hooks at centre back. The body is trimmed with tapering flaps running from the front waist, up over the shoulders & down to the back waist again, edged with a ruched self fabric band & twisted silk fringe. The waist drops to a shallow point at the front, straight at the back. Long fitted sleeves, the silk gathered in to the seams at the elbows, with two bands of ruched silk & fringing at the bicep. The cuffs fasten with silk covered buttons. CONDITION The silk is possibly faded, with some small marks. No fastenings present on the back apart from one silk covered button at the top & an eye for a hook, there are marks showing where the hooks were. The hem is frayed in places, with a small damaged area at the back, i think this was originally a dress, the skirt removed. A very stylish Victorian antique bustle evening / dinner dress dating to the 1880s - great colour & an elegant minimal design. Very petite, with a tiny waist ,possibly for a teenager, & possibly a court dressmaker - the makers mark features a coat of arms used by special permission, but i can't match the design to anything ? Two pieces, bodice & skirt , in a rich deep navy velvet, with contrasting bright pink silk. The bodice is fitted & boned, fastening in the front with lacing ( the original black lacing is present but fragile, i've used a substitute in the photos, not included ) The hem forms a sharp point at the front, & a boned pointed bustle tail at the back. The low, rounded V neck is edged with a flounce of lace, with the fitted elbow length sleeves finished with a ruffle of the same. Full bustle skirt, cut to give a slight drape at the front, with overlapping gathers in the back. The hem of the velvet is cut to deep square scallops, with a pleated ruffle of the pink silk showing through underneath, & another frill of the pink under that. The skirt is supported on the inside with a half hoop & ties , ( i've also used a bustle, not included ) & the waistband has several small straps, not sure what these are for, i think to attach the bodice to the skirt in some way ? Printed in gold inside the bodice & on the waistband of the skirt is the makers mark ' Mrs Potter Gilmore Cheltenham Modes & Robes ' with two crest, one featuring a griffin & a wyvern ( or dragon ? ) CONDITION Excellent - slight wear around the edges, a few small holes & marks in the lace at the neck. Originally two half hoops in the skirt, one is missing. As mentioned, the original lacing is fragile. A rare Georgian / Regency era antique silk dress for formal / special occasions, dating to the 1820s. A wonderful Romantic era style, with an elegant minimal design - one piece, in glossy smooth lightweight silk, pale gold, lightly quilted throughout, presumably for winter wear. Fitted waist with a wide self fabric band, the bodice fabric gathered in front & back, with a wide square neck edge with a flat silk band. The dress fastens in the back with hooks at the neck & waist. Fabulous gigot sleeves, full at the shoulder, tapering to fitted cuffs that fasten with a single button. The full skirt forms a narrow dome, gathered in to the waist at the back. Hand sewn, & cotton lined. Inside the bodice are two silk tapes, possibly anchors for sleeve supports ? PROVENANCE - the information i have connects this & several other gowns listed to Dorothy Taubman 1781 - 1857, Isle of Man / Cumbernauld, married first to Col Mark Wilks, Governor of St. Helena during Napoleons first six months of captivity, married next to William Blamire MP, the family tree with connections to Romantic poet Susanna Blamire & William Wordsworth. I have a PDF of information & family trees i can forward to the buyer. As ever, without an image of the gowns being worn i can't vouch for the authenticity of the information, but equally i have no reason to doubt it. CONDITION - splits in the silk on the left side of the skirt, 11cm & 6cm, with smaller splits on the back of the bodice & under the arms. Some small marks & under arm staining, & a few smaller holes. Greenish discolouration near the hooks, & some wear near the fastenings. A stunning antique post Edwardian / Titanic era / 1910s walking dress, lovely colour, textiles & detail. Two pieces, in a sandy gold silk woven with fine ribbed stripes. The bodice is made over a net shell that fastens with hooks at the front. Over this a neck piece fastens across with hooks, silk, with set in needle lace, the lace colour matching the silk, finished with binding in sheer purple silk, the line creating an upwards curved neck. Over this the bodice is cut to fit loosely, gathered in to the waist, overlapping & fastening with two hooks. The deep v at the front is trimmed with more lace & purple silk, with a sailor collar in the same. To each side are faux buttons & buttonholes in purple. Batwing sleeves, the fabric pleated horizontally at the inner elbow, with fitted cuffs trimmed with more lace & silk, fastening with hooks. The skirt is hobble style, full at the hips, tapering towards the hem, the silk pleated at each side to give drape, the pleats secured on the inside with tapes. At the front a fantastic large panel of the lace, with more running around the hem & narrow open sections worked in a similar fashion to the lace. More of the faux ' buttons' trim the back hips, the skirt fastening with snaps. CONDITION The skirt waist may have been altered, the top edge is turned with a raw edge on the inside, & the waist measurement doesn't correspond to the bodice - however, all the pleats & tapes are in place, so possibly this is how it was originally ? Otherwise very good, the purple silk is damaged at the left cuff, & there are a few small marks. The bodice hem is finished with silk binding, this is damaged in places. A few small holes in the net under bodice. A fantastic vintage dress in 1820s / Regency style - not sure when this was made, the fabric manufacturer was active from around the 1970s so sometime after that, or why it was made - historical re enactment ? costume ? a cottagecore / Bridgerton fashion piece ??. Either way a fab piece that had me fooled for a minute, with some amazing detail & great fabric. One piece, in a smooth medium weight cotton with an intricate all over print of ' Paisley ' boteh & stylised foliage in reds, browns, black etc.(the design reminiscent of an early 19th century Norwich shawl ) all set off with thick piping in vibrant orange. The dress fastens in the back with hooks & snaps, the bodice fitted, high waisted with a self fabric waist band. Beautifully done neck, box pleated all around, the pleats set at angles to sit perfectly around the neck, piped at top & bottom. The sleeves are puffed at the shoulders, then narrow, with cuffs made using the same technique as the neck. Full length skirt, flat in the front, pleated at the waist at the sides & back, the hem finished with piping, horizontal pleats, then a vertically pleated frill. Mostly hand sewn, the selvedge of the fabric printed ' Cranston Print Works Schwartz Liebman Tex U.S. ' CONDITION Excellent, very slight wear. A couple of quirks in the construction, with one sleeve longer than the other, & one cuff deeper than the other ( the sleeves are worn gathered so the length difference isn't noticable ) Some of the seams are unfinished on the inside. Approx measurements - shoulder 15 bust 36 waist 31 length 53 IMPORTANT INFORMATION-The pieces i sell are often over 100 years old & rarely in perfect condition, i make every effort to describe & show any faults, so PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION, READ THE CONDITION REPORT, STUDY THE IMAGES & ASK ANY QUESTIONS before buying.
